With the new homes that are built today, we find that we are getting a good thing and exchanging it for something that is not so great. If you are going to buy a home that has recently been built, you might feel like it is a good thing to own a brand new home. This is a home that no one else has lived in and is a fresh blank canvas for you to begin decorating. However, there is another side to that coin. You will also find that most new houses today are extremely lacking in the storage department. So for those of you who are perusing through some contemporary home plans, make sure that you look for areas built for storage.
One of the most important aspects of a home that most people fail to realize until after the fact is that there has to be lots of storage space. For example: if you have a three bedroom home and the only storage you have for linens and towels is a little, cramped linen closet, you are going to have issues. You are most likely going to be spending lots and lots of money on pieces of furniture that look good as well as double as storage for things like blankets. If you also have children, another item to look for is storage that is built into the walls in the play room. This will save lots of money on purchasing toy boxes in the future.
Your contemporary house plan also really needs to have plenty of storage space for items that will need to be stored outside. This means that you will have to think about where you are going to store your lawn mower, weed whacker, gasoline cans, paint cans and other odds and ends that you use when working outside of your home. For some of you who prefer to leave their vehicles parked in the driveway, perhaps this isn't as big a problem since you simply store these items in your garage. Others might prefer to have a shed built out back to store such things. No matter which method of storage you prefer, be sure to keep this in mind when designing your home.
Another area that could also use more storage is the master bedroom closets. Even though your ranch house plans with two master bedrooms might have walk in closets, it doesn't mean that the storage is maximized. So make sure to take care when designing your closet. Plenty of drawers and shelving is a necessity!
